Following a remarkable victory over their division rival, the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions are advancing to the playoffs for the second consecutive season. This marks the first time since 1994 that the team has reached the postseason in back-to-back years.
Detroit holds the number one seed in the NFC with a franchise-high record of 12-1. The offense has been productive all year, featuring seven current Pro Bowlers in the starting lineup.
Head coach Dan Campbell has shown great passion for the team and was thrilled to discuss his players heading to the playoffs.
“Listen, it’s good. It’s good, but it’s like, man, we’ve got four left, and we want to get – of course we wanted in, we want in a different way. We want to go in on our own terms, and we want to find a way to get this one seed, and that’s the priority. Certainly, you’ve got to win the division, and then you get this one seed, and we took a step closer to winning this division and doing what I just mentioned. It’s great.” Campbell said to the media after the win.
On the other side of the ball, the defense has 11 players currently on injured reserve, leading the league in that category. Despite the setbacks, the team is still holding firm. To address the absences, the team has signed several players to strengthen the defense. This has introduced many new faces in the lineup, leaving fans wondering how they will perform.
This fear was quickly debunked as the defense held Packers quarterback Jordan Love to just 12 completions. A critical moment in the game occurred when the Lions faced a tough defensive challenge. Positioned inside their own five-yard line, the defense held strong against the Packers’ aggressive offense, forcing Green Bay to settle for a field goal. This allowed the Lions’ offense to advance down the field and secure the victory with a 35-yard field goal.
Campbell opened the press conference by giving credit to the defense.
“Hell of a job by (Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glenn) AG, and those guys just laid it on the line. We call them the northern savages, they just roll right in the door, and they’re in the game. It’s a hell of a job.”
The 2024 Lions are at the top of the league, and it doesn’t seem like the end is coming soon. Come playoff time, the Detroit Lions are the team to beat.
