Quarterback is such a talented position in today’s game. With there being so many types of quarterbacks, it is hard to rank them. However, through some research and hard work. I’ve narrowed it down to 15 of the best quarterbacks for next season. (Stats are from last season)
15. DAK PRESCOTT (4,516 passing yards, 38 touchdowns)
Dak Prescott is heading into his final year on his contract, and with speculation that the team is ready to move on from the former Pro-Bowl quarterback. He could be hitting the market in 2025. Dak has been the starter for the Cowboys since 2016 and has brought the team to the playoffs for three straight seasons. However, the Cowboys have a 1-3 record in the playoffs since 2021 which has disappointed fans. This brings the question; can the Cowboys win a Super Bowl with Dak Prescott at quarterback. This question will be answered once Dak Prescott does or does not receive a new contract by the team. Only time will tell.
14. CALEB WILLIAMS (N/A)
The first-overall pick of this year’s draft. Caleb Williams is one of the greatest prospects in college football history. A Heisman winner at USC, Williams hopes to continue his succession in the windy city. Throughout this offseason, the Bears have revamped their offense around the team’s new franchise player. Getting the likes of Keenan Allen, D’Andre Swift, and Rome Odunze. Williams is in a great situation to have a historic rookie campaign. The only thing that places him this low is the unpredictability of how a rookie plays. While Williams has shown the talent to be a great NFL quarterback, it is still up in the air if he could actually perform at that level against a pro defense.
13. TUA TAGOVAILOA (4,624 passing yards, 29 total touchdowns)
It is still up in the air if Tua will receive an extension before the season starts. Tagovailoa has been a solid starter for the Dolphins for last two seasons. However, many Miami fans have felt disappointed with his production. This is two-sided discussion. While, Tua has one of the best receiving and rushing duos in the league, he has played very well compared to other starters in the league. Tua is going into his final year of his contract with the Dolphins and could possibly be a free agent come 2025. However, most of the Miami front office is for Tagovailoa to receive a hefty pay-day. One thing is for sure, Tua is a starter in this league whether that is with the Dolphins or with another team.
12. MATTHEW STAFFORD (3,965 passing yards, 24 total touchdowns)
Matthew Stafford was heavily involved in the Rams sudden improvement, and many do not realize that. Surrounded by a projected bottom five offense to start the year, Stafford helped the team finish seventh in total offensive yards. Now, Stafford did not single handedly do this, but he played a significant role. Coming off almost career-ending injuries last season, Stafford played one of his best seasons. With little to no signs of slowing down. It is easy to say, Stafford will continue to be the Rams’ starting quarterback for a while.
11. BROCK PURDY (4,280 passing yards, 33 total touchdowns)
Brock Purdy is a talented quarterback, surrounded by great teammates including Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle. The Niners even drafted Ricky Pearsall in the first round to support Purdy’s success. With the support of the best coaching system in the league, the only thing that could hold him back is himself. Purdy has all the qualities required to be a great quarterback, and now it is up to him to perform at that level. If he cannot, the 49ers might start looking for a new quarterback in 2025, but this seems unlikely. Purdy made significant improvements in his second season, leading the Niners all the way to the Super Bowl. He is capable of winning games, which is all the 49ers need from him.
10. JARED GOFF (4,575 passing yards, 32 total touchdowns)
The Lions were handing out huge extensions this offseason, and Jared Goff was one of them. The former first-overall pick is currently the third highest paid quarterback in the league. Goff has been a very solid quarterback for the Lions in the past two seasons. While not being the flashiest player on the field, Goff gets it done when it matters most. Taking the Lions to the team’s first NFC championship in the modern era. This upcoming season could finally be the year that Detroit goes to the Super Bowl. It would not be surprising for Jared Goff to play even better than he did last year. This is because of the promise of the development of his young receivers. Jameson Williams is expected to have a breakout year and Amon-Ra St Brown is only getting better as time goes on. As well as Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs going into their second seasons. Expect big things for Jared Goff and the Lions this season.
9. JUSTIN HERBERT (3,134 passing yards, 23 total touchdowns)
Justin Herbert could easily be a top three quarterback. However, with the talent currently around him, Herbert is in a tough situation in 2024. The Chargers lost Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Corey Linsley, Gerald Everett, and Will Clapp this offseason. The only major move the team made was drafting Joe Alt for some added depth at offensive tackle. At this point, the Chargers have one of the worst offenses in the league. Which pains many to say as Justin Herbert is so talented and he does not deserve to be surrounded by this low level of talent. Nonetheless, we have seen quarterbacks still perform well despite a bad offense around them. So, Justin Herbert will still play well, but might not show the greatest numbers due to Chargers’ current offensive situation.
8. JALEN HURTS (3,858 passing yards, 38 total touchdowns)
Jalen Hurts was heavily underrated this past season. While having a high in turnovers, Hurts still produced top tier passing numbers. The Eagles have an incredible offensive system. Adding Saquon Barkley to the offense is unreal. Hurts is very complete quarterback in many ways. He is an underrated rusher, very accurate, and has great leadership. Besides turnovers, Hurts is an elite quarterback. Josh Allen is remarkably similar to Hurts and how he plays. The only difference between these two is the situation they are in. Hurts has the best offensive line and an amazing receiving group around him. Whereas Josh Allen does not have the weapons around him that Hurts has. Nonetheless, Hurts is fantastic quarterback who has a great mentality.
7. KYLER MURRAY (1,799 passing yards, 13 total touchdowns)
The last two season have been rough for Kyler Murray. Midway through 2022, Murray tore his ACL. This would put Kyler Murray out for half of the 2023 season. Once He returned from injury, Murray played well with a bad surrounding offense. Now in 2024, Murray will have an improved and young receiving core in Michael Wilson, Trey McBride, and Marvin Harrison Jr. James Conner is also an underrated rusher who can make big plays when needed. Kyler Murray can play at an MVP level as he has shown that talent before. It is just a matter of if the rest of the offense is ready to make that jump in 2024.
6. LAMAR JACKSON (3,678 passing yards, 29 total touchdowns)
The reigning MVP will have another great year. With the signing of Derrick Henry, the Ravens are expected to have a run-heavy offense similar to the team’s approach in 2019. While the team did lose some offensive linemen this offseason, the offense has not really change. Zay Flowers is expected to have a solid sophomore campaign and Lamar will finally have a certified running back. The only thing that could hold back Lamar Jackosn and the offense is the possibility of injury. This offseason, Jackson has slimmed down to 205 lbs. Which is alarming for a rushing quarterback as you need to be able to take multiple hits a game. Besides injury concerns due to his weight, Lamar is ready to have another MVP level season.
5. JORDAN LOVE (4,765 passing yards, 39 total touchdowns)
Arguably the most underrated quarterback this past season was Jordan Love. Love Brought the Packers all the way to the divisional round in his first year of starting which was very impressive for the young man. Jordan Love’s production was extremely high last season, and it will only be getting higher. And a huge part of that is the development of the Packers’ young receivers. Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks are so incredibly underappreciated, and all four men can so easily break out this season. And with Jordan Love at quarterback, it just simply sweetens the pot.
4. JOE BURROW (2,309 passing yards, 15 total touchdowns)
This is a hard prediction as Joe Burrow is coming off a career-altering injury last season. Burrow suffered a torn ligament in his right wrist in the middle of last season. Which is the second time in Burrow’s four-year career that he has suffered a season-ending injury. With it being an injury to his throwing arm, it hard to say if Burrow will bounce back and play at his previous level. The former first-overall pick looks like he will be ready before week 1 of 2024 which is a good sign. However, it is still unpredictable and uncertain how he will perform after an injury like this. Besides trading Joe Mixon, The Bengals did not improve nor worsen offensively. So, it will mainly be up to Joe Burrow’s production. Which is in good favor.
3. JOSH ALLEN (4,306 passing yards, 43 total touchdowns)
While the Bills shook up the receiving room in Buffalo this offseason, it is without worry to say that Allen’s production will not be affected drastically. While the team did lose Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, the team brought in Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman who are solid replacements. And what many are forgetting is that the Bills have arguably the best tight end duo in the league, in Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid. This is still a productive offense. Now, this team currently has no shot of competing in the AFC. However, this offense will still win you some games. It might seem crazy, but with someone as talented as Josh Allen, it is hard not to try to compete. Despite the record possible not showing it this season, Josh Allen is still an elite quarterback.
2. CJ STROUD (4,108 passing yards, 26 total touchdowns)
The only quarterback that could compete with Patrick Mahomes for the AFC is CJ Stroud. The second-year star is coming off one of the greatest rookie campaigns in league history. The Texans brought in stars, Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon, this offseason to help Stroud and the offense. This is a great move by the team as now the Texans have an underrated run game and an incredible passing game. CJ Stroud now has one of the best receiving corps in the league and could easily produce pro-bowl statistics. Through this offseason, Stroud has proven to be a great leader, teammate, and player which is hard to do in today’s game. CJ Stroud is on pace to have a fantastic career.
- PATRICK MAHOMES (4,183 passing yards, 27 total touchdowns)
The one and only, Patrick Mahomes, is expected to put up legendary numbers during the 2024 season. Despite leading an offense that struggled with holding penalties and dropped passes, Mahomes managed to lead the Chiefs to their second-straight Super Bowl title. The Chiefs brought in much needed receiving help in Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy this offseason. And with the all-time great, Travis Kelce, still showing no signs of slowing down. It is very possible for the team to win three straight championships. Mahomes is already considered a Hall of Fame talent and one of the best to ever do it. And if he were to complete the three-peat, it would be safe to say that Patrick Mahomes is a top 5 quarterback of all-time.
