Following the team’s first-round exit in 2024, the baseball is out for blood to kick off the new season. In Head Coach Matt McCarthy’s 6 years of coaching at Roswell, the team has never been to such an impressive start.
Roswell entered the 2025 season with an inferior record of 60-72 in the McCarthy era. However, in the first 11 games of the current season, the team has outscored opponents by 34 points. These high scores have led to Roswell’s stately 9-5 record, which puts the program fourth in the 5A division.
Despite the Hornets’ fine start to the season, the team should be cautious about slowing down to end the year. Last season, although also beginning the season with an 9-5 record, team production started to slip in the latter half of the year, finishing with a 16-16 record and being eliminated in the first round to Etowah.

Nevertheless, the team is loaded with talent, especially the infield. 1st baseman Charlie Vogel is committed to the university of Lagrange, while many players could receive collegiate offers down the road.
“The brotherhood that comes with the being a part of the Roswell baseball program. This team is full of talented players who have each other’s back, which gives us the momentum to make an effect, come playoffs.” Senior 1st baseman Charlie Vogel said when discussing his time with the program.
The only persistent negative the team has faced all year has been the number of walks allowed. Most of the team’s allowed runs come from walks. This could be due to the diversity of pitchers, each with a different level of experience.
Nevertheless, this problem is highly common for high school programs and shouldn’t be too impactful for the long run.
In years past, the baseball team has limited their full potential due to dumb mistakes. However, this year’s team is motivated and matured. With this in mind, the program is heading in a great direction.
