This week, Jordan Love signed a historic contract extension with the Green Bay Packers. A four-year 220-million-dollar deal with a record breaking 75 million dollar signing bonus. Love becomes tied with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence for the highest paid quarterback, earning 55 million dollars a season. This is great news for Packers fans as the team locks in their new franchise quarterback. Love was heading into his second season as the team’s starter when this deal was announced. The young quarterback was originally drafted in 2020, but due to the great play of Aaron Rodgers, Love did not start a game until his second season. And it would only be until his fourth season in the league that he would be the team’s full-time starter.
During the 2023 season, Love played great. He finished seventh in passing yards and second in passing touchdowns. With the incredible production of Love and the offense, the Packers would go 9-8 and make the playoffs. And in Jordan Love’s first playoff game, he would upset the Cowboys, winning 48-32. Love threw for 272 yards and 3 touchdowns in the victory. This would lead to the Packers going up against the 49ers in the divisional. Despite Jordan Love putting up solid numbers, the Packers would ultimately come up short.
Despite the devastation, the future and promise of Jordan Love was very hopeful. Since Brett Favre, the Packers have had elite quarterback play. And it is safe to say that this will not change with Jordan Love. One of the best things about Love’s situation is his receivers. In years past, the team struggled to find productive receivers outside of Davantae Adams. However, the Packers now have the most underappreciated receiving core in the league. With young, talented receivers like Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Christian Watson, and Jayden Reed, it would be hard not to succeed. The best thing about this receiving corps is that the oldest player that was mentioned is only 25 years old.
This offseason, the Packers upgraded the running game by signing Josh Jacobs and improved the offensive line by drafting Jordan Mason. With all these moves, the team has shown that they heavily believe in Jordan Love’s development. The Packers are a contending team, and fans do not even realize it. Jordan Love can easily become a top three quarterback in this league, especially with what he is surrounded by. This team’s offense is perfectly suited to him. He has a solid offensive line to protect him, a great rushing duo in Josh Jacobs and AJ Dillon, and an incredible young receiving group with whom he can develop. Jordan Love’s future looks bright, filled with winning and producing at an extremely high level.
